Monday 21 June
Concert for Solstice Chapel Choir's final concert of the academic year is usually a concert for the Summer Solstice - often including a setting of the requiem mass. This year, instead of a requiem, our concert is inspired by texts from the beautiful night service of compline, including music by Michael Praetorious, Arthur Sullivan, Kerry Andrew, Charles Wood and members of the choir. Most of the music has been recorded outside in the cloisters and west quadrangle at the University of Glasgow. The new work by choir members was recorded virtually on Sunday 20 June. |

Choral Contemplations VIII: In te Domine Speravi The starting (and ending point!) of this short virtual concert is Psalm 31. We begin with the famous setting by Josquin, which was included in the most recent weekly reflection from the UofG's new chaplain Carolyn Kelly. And we finish with a new virtual recording of Psalm 31 by Mendelssohn. In between we revisit our performance from 2017 which celebrated the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, including music by Luther (himself a great admirer of Josquin) and J.S.Bach. |

Virtual Choral Contemplations VII: Granville Bantock This short concert really only scratches the surface of the rich and varied repertoire of one of Britain's less well known composers. Most of these recordings are taken from a concert dedicated to Bantock that we gave in October 2018. Sumer is icumen in was recorded remotely by the choir during the last week. Virtual Choral Contemplations VI: Each Morning is a new beginning Virtual Choral Contemplations this week takes it's title from a quote by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a favourite writer of Revd Stuart MacQuarrie, who retired as Chaplain to the University of Glasgow on 30 April. This concert includes our first virtual choir video, made for Stuart, to wish him all the best for his retirement. Our second piece is a new reimagining of Sheena Phillip's arrangement of Aurora Rutilat, made by Alison Eales. PLUS a chat with Sheena and Alison, before we premiere the track. |

Virtual Choral Contemplations V: Earth Day
For our Virtual Choral Contemplations this evening, we mark the 50th annual Earth Day, which takes place tomorrow (22 April 2020). Our programme is inspired by the natural world, and includes a Scottish reformation setting of the Benedicite, a protest song against the atom bomb from the @Political Song Collection and a wassail to potatoes! Including music by Mendelssohn, madrigals by Bartlett and Pearsall, and Harold Thalange's joyful arrangement of Three Craws. The Pearsall is a new recording made over the last week made by members of the choir using whatever recording devices they have access to (phones, laptops, tablets etc). |
