Scholarships for Choral Singers, Organists and Conductors
Choral awards for singers, organists and conductors are funded by the Lanfine Bequest. In addition to these scholarships, all members of the choir receive free singing tuition. If you are interested in receiving further information about any of these awards, please email Katy Lavinia Cooper.
Lanfine Choral Exhibitioners
Awarded annually in the Martinmas Term by the Senate on the recommendation of the Director of Chapel Music and the University Organist. Candidates must be qualified to read for a degree of the University. The scholars are members of the Chapel Choir and sing at services and events, and attend weekly rehearsals (Sundays) during term. Other duties are assigned to them from time to time at the discretion of the Director of Chapel Music/University Organist.
There is an additional honorarium for the Choir Librarian.
Lanfine Lay Clerkships
Awarded annually in the Martinmas Term by the Senate on the recommendation of the Director of Chapel Music and the University Organist. The Lay Clerks are members of the Chapel Choir and sing at services and events, and attend weekly rehearsals (Sundays) during term. Other duties are assigned to them from time to time at the discretion of the Director of Chapel Music/University Organist.
Lanfine Organ Scholarship
This attractive award, is made annually by the Senate on the recommendation of the Director of Chapel Music and the University Organist. The appointment is normally continued to the end of the scholar’s course of study in the University. The Organ Scholar attends weekly rehearsals of the Chapel Choir and the all services and events throughout the term; he or she also plays for a share of the weekday early morning services in the Chapel. Other duties are assigned from time to time at the discretion of the Director of Chapel Music/University Organist.
Conducting Scholarship
The choir also has provision for a Conducting Scholarship. This role is suitable for a singer interested in developing their choral conducting skills. Expresions of interest should be made directly to Katy Lavinia Cooper.
