Where we go
At the end of the summer term, the Chapel Choir frequently tours abroad, usually for a week to 10 days.
Probably the most memorable tour was in 2002 when they visited the east coast of the United States. The tour began with a reception at the British Embassy in Washington DC, to which University alumni and their families were invited. Following a number of concerts and services in Washington, Philadelphia and Princeton, the Choir finally arrived in New York, where they had the honour of singing at the Sunday morning service of St Thomas Church, Fifth Avenue.
The Choir are frequent visitors to Germany - 1999, 2000 and most recently in 2004, when they visited the University's twin university in Mainz, before travelling to the Black Forest through Worms and Speyer. Their final concert was in the Dom at St Blasien - a magnificent building which dominates the landscape, and has a 9-second echo.
In 2007 the Choir toured the Baltic states of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, giving concerts in all three capitals. The highlight - for her as for the Choir - was meeting the renowned Lithuanian composer, Kristina Vasiliauskaite, whose Missa Brevis they performed in Vilnius Cathedral.
In July 2009, the Choir visited Tuscany, giving concerts in Montecatini-Terme, Florence and San Gimignano, and singing at Mass in the Duomo in Florence. There was time for sight-seeing in these wonderful locations, as well as visits to Lucca, Siena and Montecatini Alto.
