The perfect way to end your working day, these short, reflective services and recitals take place at 6pm every Tuesday during term time in the Memorial Chapel. Loosely following the seasons of the church year, they take inspiration from the festivals and saints’ days that fall around each performance date. From Bach and Purcell to Poulenc, Britten and Rutter, the music is drawn from a variety of traditions and styles, with popular favourites and less well-known repertoire including the Scottish premieres of several pieces by James MacMillan. Each service and recital also features organ music played by Kevin Bowyer, University Organist and internationally renowned recitalist.

Entry to services and recitals is free and all are very welcome, whatever your background or beliefs.

Details of the repertoire which will be performed is available under in each event in the Calendar.

There are voluntary places available for soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices in addition to several funded Lay Clerkships and Choral Awards

Contact the Director of Music to arrange an audition time by clicking here. ]]><![CDATA[Alain: A Centenary Celebration]]>Mon, 23 May 2011 14:45:34 +0000http://www.chapelchoir.org/1/post/2011/05/alain-a-centenary-celebration.htmlGlasgow University Chapel Choir traveled to St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, last night to perform a programme of the rarely heard choral works of Jehan Alain whose centenary falls this year. 

The choir will repeat the programme as part of the West End Festival and Glasgow International Organ Festival in a free concert in the University Memorial Chapel on Sunday 5th June at 7:30pm. For more information please see our Calendar of Events.

Though well known for his organ music, Alain's choral output is relatively unknown outside his native France. Among other projects this year the Chapel Choir has recorded a CD of these beautiful sacred and secular compositions. It will be only the second recording of the complete choral works and the first to be made by a British choir. The CD is due for release next year under the choir's own Bute label.

Performing with singers and instrumentalists from Scottish Opera, the RSAMD and other members of Glasgow University, the concert held in the Memorial Chapel raised in excess of £2000.
